The USGA and Pinehurst Resort & Country Club welcomed back reigning U.S. Open Champion Bryson DeChambeau on Monday to the site of his unforgettable second U.S. Open victory.
To honor his triumph—and the “shot of his life”—the USGA and Pinehurst unveiled a commemorative plaque next to the 18th hole greenside bunker on course No. 2, marking the very spot where DeChambeau’s incredible bunker shot secured his championship last year.
An emotional Bryson DeChambeau reflected on his victory at the 2024 U.S. Open, played at Pinehurst, and the influence Payne Stewart had on his journey to that triumph.

After placing the plaque in the ground next to the bunker, DeChambeau grabbed a club and set out to recreate that famous shot out of the bunker. He made several attempts, but each ball landed on the green far from where he finished on that final day of the U.S. Open.
It was a reminder of what made that day so special – the day he stood in “that darn bunker” and made “the shot of my life.”
