Teen facing charges after firearm stolen from vehicle

A teenager from Southern Pines is facing several charges after a vehicle was broken into at an Aberdeen apartment complex.

In a media release on Wednesday, the Aberdeen Police Department said officers responded to Blue’s Crossing Apartments on Feb. 16 about a vehicle breaking and entering and larceny of a firearm that had previously occurred.

The stolen firearm was entered into a national database.

“Aberdeen Investigators were assigned the case and were able to determine that a juvenile male was stopped by the Southern Pine Police Department and was found to be in possession of the stolen firearm, several hours after it was reported stolen,” said the Aberdeen Police Department in the release. “The gun was seized, and the two agencies collaborated to obtain information on the juvenile. Aberdeen Investigators were able to confirm the involvement of one juvenile; a 15 year old male, of Southern Pines, NC.”

On March 12, Aberdeen investigators obtained a juvenile petition on the suspect, through Moore County Juvenile Justice for felony breaking and entering a motor vehicle, felony possession of stolen property, felony larceny of a firearm, and misdemeanor larceny.

On April 9, the juvenile petition was fulfilled and will be processed through Moore County Juvenile Court.

The teenager’s identity was not released due to his age.
