A driver and a young child escaped serious injury Monday evening after a rollover crash just outside Aberdeen.

The crash happened on Misty Creek Drive near the intersection with N.C. Highway 211 around 7:30 p.m.

According to officials at the scene, a Volkswagen Touareg ran off the side of the road, struck a utility box and a utility pole, then rolled over. The force of the impact shattered the utility box, snapped the pole in half, and caused extensive damage to the vehicle, including shattered windows and deployed airbags.

Emergency responders said both the driver and the child were evaluated at the scene and did not appear to have serious injuries. Neither was transported.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, and further details were not released on scene.

Aberdeen Fire & Rescue and Moore County EMS responded, while Aberdeen Police shut down Misty Creek Drive. The N.C. Highway Patrol is investigating the incident.
