Driver crosses median, crashes into car

No serious injuries were reported after a car careened across the median and into the path of an oncoming car Saturday. The two-vehicle wreck occurred north of Valley View Road on U.S. Highway 1 in Southern Pines around 9 p.m.

A Nissan Pathfinder was traveling north on Highway 1 when the driver of a Mercury sedan lost control and crossed the median, crashing into Nissan, according to authorities on the scene.

The Mercury struck the Nissan in the driver’s side and spun it around, sending it off the road. Both vehicles suffered moderate damage in the accident, and two people were transported with non-life-threatening injuries.

According to N.C. State Highway Patrol, alcohol is believed to be a factor in the cause of the accident.
