Driver extricated, airlifted after Aberdeen crash

One person was airlifted to the hospital Sunday evening following a single-vehicle crash in Aberdeen. The crash happened near the intersection of U.S. Highway 1 and Batchelor Farm Road and left the driver in critical condition.

According to authorities on scene, the incident occurred shortly before 6 p.m. when a vehicle traveling on Batchelor Farm Road reportedly crossed all four lanes of U.S. Highway 1 and crashed into the trees behind the House of Fish restaurant.

North Carolina State Highway Patrol told Sandhills Sentinel that the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed at the time of the crash.

The male driver, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, had to be extricated by emergency responders. The door was cut off of his vehicle in an extensive process to safely remove him from the wreckage.

He was transported by Moore County EMS to a landing zone at the Pinebluff ball field, where he was flown to a nearby trauma center. The driver’s condition has not been released, but CPR was performed on scene.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash. The cause is still under investigation, and no other details have been released at this time.
