Eagle Springs man facing charges including felony child abuse

Moore County Sheriff Ronnie Fields announced an arrest following an investigation in the Eagle Springs area of Moore County.

On June 29, Moore County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a medical emergency involving a 15-year-old child in Eagle Springs.

During a joint investigation with North Carolina Alcohol Law Enforcement (ALE), it was discovered that an adult had allegedly provided alcohol to the minor resulting in the medical emergency.

On July 1, sheriff’s investigators arrested Javan Overton, age 37, of Eagle Springs. Overton was arrested on charges of one count of felony child abuse inflicting serious bodily injury, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, aiding underage purchase of alcohol, aiding underage consumption of alcohol, and giving alcohol to a person under 21 years of age.

Overton was committed to the Moore County Detention Center under a $30,000.00 secured bond pending an appearance in Moore County District Court on July 24.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
