Firefighters save business

Tuesday morning shortly after 7 a.m., firefighters were dispatched to a commercial structure fire at Coastal AgroBusiness in Carthage. The business is located at the corner of McNeill street and Legion Hut Road. The fire was located in the office building, and no one was inside at the time.

Carthage Police Department was first on scene to find smoke inside the business. Carthage Fire Department arrived shortly after and was able to quickly knock down the fire while containing it to just one area of the building without incident.

“We were able to contain it, the business was not open at the time, and Carthage PD is on scene handling the investigation,” said Carthage Fire Chief Tyner.

Crews could be seen ventilating the building. It’s unclear when this building will reopen.

Responding to the scene were Carthage Fire and Rescue, Southern Pines Fire and Rescue, Whispering Pines Fire and Rescue, Cypress Pointe Fire and Rescue, Moore County Public Safety, and Carthage Police Department.
