Grunts defeat Falcons, 54-6

After a challenging week one, the Grunts of Father Vincent Capodanno High School were determined not to let that loss define their season.

On Friday night, they controlled all aspects of the game and walked away with a convincing 54-6 victory over the Lee Christian School Falcons.

The Grunt defense was disruptive all night and set the pace by forcing a three-and-out on the first drive. Player of the game, Richie Berry, was in the Falcons’ backfield all night, plowing through the offensive line and disrupting plays on every drive. He finished the game with multiple sacks, tackles for loss, and a forced fumble.

On offense, the Grunts showcased the hard running of Braedon Hudson, who took the game’s first offensive play for a long touchdown run, but an illegal block in the back call nullified it. Braedon wouldn’t be denied much longer as he took the first play of their second drive for a 65-yard touchdown run.

The Grunts’ passing game was also on display, with quarterback Ian Hicks connecting on two touchdown passes on the night to Braden and Canon Capps.

Coming up, the Grunts have a bye week before they face off against Rocky Mount Academy at home.
