Hit and run driver flees scene, then causes multi-vehicle accident

A suspected hit-and-run driver struck a car in Aberdeen, fled the scene, and moments later caused a multi-vehicle accident, according to authorities. The accident took place in front of Taco Bell Thursday night.

It all began when the driver of a Ford F150 pickup truck was heading south on Highway 1 and struck a Nissan Rogue at the traffic light by CVS.

The driver then sped away, turning right onto Highway 15-501 toward Taco Bell.  As he entered the intersection at Taco Bell, he slammed head-on into a Jeep Grand Cherokee that was waiting to turn left.

The impact sent the Jeep into the air and onto a Honda Civic that was behind the Jeep. The truck, after impact, went flying onto the grass in front of First Watch Restaurant slamming into the fenced-in patio.

A Jeep is hit by a truck and the rear of the SUV ends up on the hood of a Honda.

The driver of the truck was transported to FirstHealth by EMS. His condition is unknown at this time. The other drivers and occupants were checked out by EMS but did not require transport to the emergency room.

The driver of the Nissan, that he initially struck, followed the truck and saw him swerving in the roadway and witnessed the crash at the intersection. Neither she nor her passenger was injured in the hit and run.

Aberdeen Police are investigating both accidents and charges are pending.

Responding to the scene were Aberdeen Fire & Rescue, Moore County EMS, and Aberdeen Police Department.
