Home cooking proved to be just fine for two recent Pinecrest High School graduates. A.J. Beechler and Eric Bae both shot 2-over, 72 today at the first round of the 118th North and South Men’s Amateur Championship on Pinehurst No. 2.
Beechler and Bae are tied for 19th place as the tournament continues tomorrow with the second round. The lowest 32 players will make the cut and move on to head-to-head play on Wednesday. The field is cut in half with 2 rounds on Wednesday and Thursday until only 2 will remain for the 18-hole final match on Friday.
A.J. is an incoming Eastern Carolina University Freshman who won back-to-back individual State 4-A Championships while playing for Pinecrest in 2018 and 2017. Eric, a Sophomore at Wake Forest University, was the 2015 4A Individual State Champion.
The Pinehurst County Club encourages the public to attend free of charge.
