Multiple fire departments responded to a barn fire on Den Road in Southern Pines’ horse country Saturday afternoon. During the fire, a horse was temporarily trapped, a vehicle was destroyed, and a home was threatened.
Authorities arrived on scene and found a barn on fire. Initial reports indicated a horse was trapped in the paddocks, but the animal was able to escape the area without serious injuries.
Personnel from Southern Pines Fire Department and 4Hooves Large Animal Services were on scene assisting with the injured horse and providing support to the owner as needed for the other horses on the property.
Because the property is located well off a main road, tanker trucks from across the county responded to establish a drop tank to allow apparatus to refill water supplies.
Departments responding included Southern Pines Fire Department, Aberdeen Fire Department, Pinebluff Fire Department, Whispering Pines Fire Department, Crains Creek Fire Department, Cypress Pointe Fire Department, and Pinehurst Fire Department. NC Forest Service also responded.
The cause of the fire was unknown and is under investigation.
