House struck, two airlifted after collision with dump truck near Carthage

Two people were airlifted Monday morning following a head-on collision with a dump truck on the outskirts of Carthage.

A Nissan Altima carrying two female passengers was heading east into Carthage just after 8 a.m. when it collided with a dump truck on a curve in front of Bibey’s Garage on N.C. 24/27.

Officials on scene told Sandhills Sentinel that the Altima crossed the center line and was struck by the dump truck. The car spun around and came to rest on the side of the road with extensive damage to the front and driver’s side of the vehicle.

The dump truck came to rest against a house in the curve after hitting the Nissan. The driver narrowly missed the main structure and grazed the front porch.
