One person was airlifted to a hospital with head injuries following an assault late Saturday night at a Southern Pines hotel.
Southern Pines Police officers responded around 11:15 p.m. Saturday to the SureStay Best Western, where authorities told Sandhills Sentinel that the incident reportedly involved an assault and resulted in serious injuries to one individual.
Sunday morning, Southern Pines Deputy Chief Robert Heaton said that the assault stemmed from a dispute between two people who knew each other.
“The assault resulted from an altercation between two men that knew each other, and no weapons were believed to have been involved,” Heaton told Sandhills Sentinel. “This was not a random act of violence, and no threats are posed to the community as a result of this incident.”
Heaton described the victim’s injuries as non-life-threatening and that he was flown to a trauma center for evaluation.
Police have not released the identities of those involved, and no arrests or additional details have been announced. The investigation remains ongoing.
This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
