Fire destroys vehicle in Cameron

A vehicle fire destroyed an older model car Saturday morning on Crains Creek Road in Cameron, according to Cypress Pointe Fire and Rescue.

Crews were dispatched just after 11 a.m. and arrived to find a fire in the engine compartment that was spreading into the passenger area, the department said. All occupants were safely out of the vehicle when firefighters arrived.

“The first arriving engine reported an engine compartment fire with extension into the passenger compartment,” Cypress Pointe Fire and Rescue explained in a statement.

Firefighters deployed a hose line, slowed the fire, and worked to open the hood and reach the main source of the flames. As crews began knocking down the fire, a fuel line burned loose, allowing gasoline from the tank to drain and ignite beneath the vehicle.

Firefighters were able to contain the fuel fire within a few minutes and prevent further spread.

“The owners of the vehicle stated that this vehicle was just over 30 years old, and they had purchased this specific vehicle as a project for the family,” reports the department. “Unfortunately, this was not the ending they had anticipated for the vehicle.”
