An elderly man is alive after being trapped in his vehicle for several hours after being involved in a rollover crash early Sunday morning.
The single-vehicle crash happened just inside Harnett County between Dove Road and Heartland Lane.
According to officials on scene, the man told them he crashed early this morning, possibly around 1 a.m., but he was trapped inside the truck until someone spotted the crash and called 911 hours later around 7 a.m.
The man was traveling west on N.C. Highway 24-27 when he ran off the right shoulder of the road in a curve and overcorrected.
The Toyota Tacoma skidded across the highway before hitting a small embankment and going airborne. The truck flew through the tops of a couple of small trees before rolling over and coming to a stop on its driver’s side on the power line easement.
The vehicle landed on its side off of the roadway.
When first responders reached the driver, they had to cut the windshield out of the truck to free him. He was transported to the hospital for treatment.
N.C. Highway Patrol was on scene investigating the crash.
One lane of N.C. Highway 24-27 was shut down briefly while crews worked the scene.
Responding units included Cypress Pointe Fire Department, Harnett County EMS, and N.C. Highway Patrol.
