Raleigh Ball, Jr., age 83, of Vass (Woodlake), passed away on Sunday, September 13, 2026, at his home, surrounded by his family.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2026 at 2:00pm at Cox Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Gregg Newton officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the funeral home.
Raleigh was born in Virginia on September 2, 1943, to the late Raleigh Albert Ball and Ida May Ball. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Selma Lynn Ball, sister, Ilene Ball, June Horne, Ola Gay Vandyke, brother, Herbie Ball.
He was a son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather. He’s finally reunited with his love of 62 years, Lynn. He was an avid golfer, auto sales genius and most importantly a loving family man. He always smiled most when he was on vacation with family, on a golf course, or with his grandchildren. He loved his community, and his community loved him. He could tell you everything about the Carolina Tar Heels basketball and Carolina Hurricanes hockey, he was a lifelong fan and supporter of his favorite teams. He will be missed by everybody he touched, near and dear.
He is survived by his daughter, Sherri Ball Cayton (Jim) of Leland, N.C., son, Derek Allan Ball (Kelly) of Vass; grandchildren, Evan (Jessica), Walker, Hayden (Daniel), Mallory, great-grandchildren, Emilia, Ryder, Adaline; sister, Betty Smith of Virginia; brother, Hermus Ball (Anita) of Greensboro.
