An unoccupied home was destroyed in Cameron after multiple units responded to a fire on Chestnut Street Friday evening.
The fire was spotted by Pinebluff Fire Chief Johnathan Richardson, who happened to be driving through the area and noticed a large plume of smoke nearby. As he approached the scene, he encountered a man in the roadway who said he had just called 911 moments before.
Richardson recounted to Sandhills Sentinel that heavy smoke was coming from the structure and flames were visible from outside the building.
Firefighters launched an attack on the blaze and brought it under control about 25 minutes later.
The home was unoccupied at the time of the fire, and officials said it is not believed anyone was living there.
Firefighters work to control the fire and extinguish hotspots.
The residence did not have electrical service, and there were no power lines connected to the home.
The Moore County Fire Marshal responded to the scene and is investigating the cause of the fire, which remains undetermined.
Responding units included Cypress Pointe Fire and Rescue, Carthage Fire & Rescue, Whispering Pines Fire Department, Moore County EMS, the Moore County Fire Marshal’s Office, the Moore County Sheriff’s Office, and Duke Energy. The Southern Pines Fire Department provided station coverage for Cypress Pointe Fire and Rescue while its crews remained at the scene.
