Man airlifted after being struck by tractor in Pinehurst

A man working at Pinehurst No. 9 was airlifted in serious condition after an incident involving a landscaping tractor at the course. Shortly before 5 p.m. on Friday, first responders were alerted to a call reporting that a man had been struck near Royal Troon Drive in Pinehurst and arrived to find the patient in critical condition.

Authorities on scene confirmed to Sandhills Sentinel that the incident involved a “large landscaping tractor” and that a man had been struck. Initial reports suggested that the man had been fully run over by the tractor, and his injuries were consistent with these reports. However, this statement is currently unconfirmed while authorities fully investigate.

Moore County EMS transported the patient to the Memorial Park ballfield in Southern Pines, where a landing zone for air care had been established by Southern Pines Fire and Rescue. He was then loaded onto the helicopter and transported to UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill.

The identity of the injured man has not been released. His condition is unknown at this time.
