A man from Southern Pines was arrested and facing gun charges, according to a news release from the Southern Pines Police Department.
The Southern Pines Police Department said Ahmir McKayhan, 23, was arrested on March 22 on charges of possession of a stolen firearm, carrying a concealed weapon and resist, delay, and obstruct a public officer.
The news release said Southern Police officers attempted to serve an outstanding warrant for the suspect’s arrest in the 700 block of Stephens Street.
“While speaking to McKayhan who was seated in a vehicle, officers observed him pull a gun from his jacket pocket in attempt to conceal it in the vehicle,” said the release. “When removing McKayhan from the vehicle and placing him under arrest, McKayhan resisted by pulling away and attempting to flee on foot from officers.”
McKayhan was jailed at the Moore County Detention Center under no bond. He is due in court on April 18 and is presumed innocent until proven guilty.Â
