Man critical after motorcycle crashes into truck

UPDATE: The motorcyclist, Rafael Dejesus Flores, Jr., 23, of Hope Mills, passed away at the hospital, according to Aberdeen Police Chief Brian Chavis.


A man is in critical condition after crashing his motorcycle into the side of a vehicle on 15-501 by Dicks Sporting Goods in Aberdeen on Saturday. Bystanders immediately went to the aid of the motorcyclist and began CPR while others checked on the occupants of the other vehicle involved.

As emergency crews arrived on the scene, they took over lifesaving measures on the rider, and crews worked on the occupants of the Honda Ridgeline, who were also injured in the accident.

The motorcyclist was loaded into the ambulance and transported to the hospital with crews continuing CPR and other lifesaving measures on the man. The three occupants of the Honda were transported in a second ambulance to the hospital. The condition of all the injured is unknown at this time.

According to authorities, the Honda was turning into Dicks Sporting Goods from 15-501 when the motorcycle crashed into the passenger door of the vehicle. The motorcyclist was heading northbound on 15-501 at a high rate of speed, according to the Aberdeen Police report.

Aberdeen Police taped off the area, and their accident reconstruction team was called.

An Aberdeen Police Department press release said, “No fault was established on behalf of the driver of the Honda Ridgeline. After collaborating with the Moore County District Attorney’s Office, it was determined that no charges will be filed.”
