Moore County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a fatal shooting in Carthage on Friday.
“On May 3, 2024, at approximately 8:15 p.m., sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a report of trespassing at a private residence along Dowd Road in Carthage, North Carolina,” said Moore County Sheriff Ronnie Fields in a statement issued to Sandhills Sentinel. “Upon arriving, deputies discovered one male subject deceased from an apparent gunshot wound following an encounter with the property owner.”
Sheriff’s detectives and forensic personnel are conducting an investigation. “There is no evidence to suggest any immediate threat to the community,” said Fields.
No other details are being released at this time.
