Man receives up to 27 years in prison for child sex crimes

On August 26, Terrance Harris, 58, of Aberdeen, appeared in Moore County Superior Court and pled guilty to one count of a first-degree sex offense; one count of first-degree sexual exploitation and three counts of taking indecent liberties with a child, said District Attorney Mike Hardin.

Harris received an active prison sentence of 19 years minimum to 27 years and 10 months maximum. Additionally, Harris was ordered to register as a sex offender for life and also ordered to be placed on satellite-based monitoring for a period of 25 years.

The investigation began on August 23, 2020, and Harris has been in custody at the Moore County Detention Center since his arrest on August 24, 2020.

The Moore/Hoke County District Attorney’s Office has been working diligently with law enforcement agencies to prosecute backlogged cases of defendants who are being held in custody.

“I would like to thank and give credit to the hard work and dedication of detectives working at the Moore County Sheriff’s Office,” said Hardin.
