The N.C. Department of Transportation must temporarily close a portion of N.C. 5 in Pinehurst this week to do emergency repairs to a crossline pipe.

NCDOT maintenance crews plan to close N.C. 5 at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, April 18, between the intersections of Morganton Road and N.C. 2. Through traffic will be directed with signs to use Morganton Road, U.S. 15/501 and Midland Road to avoid the closure.

Crews will replace the metal pipe, which has deteriorated underneath the road, with a more durable concrete-reinforced pipe before reopening it Thursday, April 19. The department had planned to replace the aging pipe, but officials decided to accelerate the project because rainwater is standing near the road where the pipe is damaged.
