Obituary for Alan Kent Parrish

Alan “Kent” Parrish, born on February 7, 1956, in Jacksonville, Florida, brought joy into the world until his peaceful passing on November 13, 2023. Kent was the beloved son of Richard Joseph Parrish and Barbara Lusk Parrish of Raleigh, NC. He now joins his father and cherished nephew, Caleb Woodlief in eternal rest in heaven.

Raised in Raleigh, North Carolina, Kent attended Millbrook High School before embarking on his adventures at Appalachian State University in Boone, NC. Nature was his happy place, and he reveled in the great outdoors, finding solace in the countryside with his loyal dogs, Kai and Storm. Kent’s love for hunting, fishing, and exploring the outdoors was matched only by his larger-than-life laugh and his delightfully sarcastic, yet fun-loving, attitude.

On a serene farm in Franklinton, NC, Kent created a haven for himself, surrounded by nature and the companionship of his two four-legged friends. His love of cooking, eating, and savoring a good meal added another layer to the warmth he shared. Despite his private nature, Kent’s sense of humor and warm sarcasm endeared him to those fortunate enough to share in his company.

Professionally, Kent was a co-founder and owner of NorWake Contractor Services, a business deeply rooted in family history. He dedicated himself to its success in Wake and surrounding counties, carrying on the legacy initiated by his father.

Kent is survived by his loving mother, Barbara L. Parrish of Raleigh, NC; his sister, Sandra Parrish Woodlief of Foxfire, NC; and his niece, Kendall Woodlief of Raleigh, NC. In addition to extended family members, Kent’s many friends and acquaintances will fondly remember his boisterous laugh, his sarcastic yet endearing wit, and the warmth of his companionship.

A celebration of Kent’s life will take place in Southern Pines, NC at Belle Meade’s Chapel – St. Joseph of the Pines at 1pm on November 29, 2023. In honor of his passion for the great outdoors and enthusiasm for the sport of hunting, the family recommends contributions to The NC Wildlife Resources Commission: Hunter Education Program in Kent’s memory.

In the quiet rustle of the leaves and the gentle breeze through the trees and countryside, Kent’s spirit will forever live on in the nature he so dearly loved. May he find eternal peace in the arms of Jesus and the wilderness he adored.
