Obituary for Claudia Annice Probst Stack of Rocky Point

Claudia Annice Probst Stack, age 57, of Rocky Point, NC, passed away on December 24, 2023, surrounded by loving family.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Joseph Stack; amazing children, Alden and Jack; mother, Annice Alt of Southern Pines; sisters, Joyce (Heath MacAlpine) Probst MacAlpine of Dayton, OH, Helen (Stuart Mills) Probst Mills of Pinehurst and Barbara (George) Morrow of Hasting on Hudson, NY; and their families.

Claudia was an educator, writer, filmmaker, author, and preservationist. She began her filmmaking work because she passionately believed that her older neighbors’ stories of African American education in rural Pender County, and then other parts of North Carolina, needed to be recorded, preserved, and shared. Her documentaries on Rosenwald Schools, the African American education experience and sharecropping in the South won many awards.

She was an accomplished horsewoman, and an avid animal lover, who was spending time with her horses and her new puppy up until her final days.

There will be a private family service and inurnment in January. A Celebration of Life for friends, community members, and colleagues will be held in Pender County later in the winter.

A tribute gift can be made in Claudia’s memory to the Triple Negative Breast Cancer Foundation on the website – https://tnbcfoundation.org/support-us/donate

The family is being served by the McLeod Funeral Home, Southern Pines.
