Isaac Alexander Hobbs, 98, of Southern Pines, N.C, passed away at his home on Wednesday, September 26th.
Isaac was born on July 3rd, 1920 to the late Julius C. and Maude Elizabeth Player Hobbs. He is preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Elizabeth “Betsy” Hobbs, brothers W. J., Kerr, Frederick and Dr. Marcus E. Hobbs.
Isaac was born in Wilmington, N.C. After high school graduation, at the age of 16, he went on to earn his Bachelors’ of Science from N.C.S.U in Chemical Engineering. Isaac served in the U.S. Navy during WW II and upon returning home, he started working for the Tennessee Valley Authority. He then worked for the Atomic Energy Commission at the Savannah River Plant Operations in Aiken S.C. He retired in 1975 as Director of Technical Productions. Isaac was a member of the Free Masons, the Sons of the American Revolution of N.C. and the St. Andrew’s Society of N.C.
He is survived by his sons: Robert Player “Dick” Hobbs, wife Patty, of Wilmington, N.C. and Alexander Owen Hobbs, PhD, wife Jerie, of Cary, N.C. Grandchildren: Jonathan, Suzanne, Sarah and Zachery. He is also survived by his sister, Jane McPhaul of Southern Pines, N.C. He is also survived by 3 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at the Boles Funeral Home, 425 W. Pennsylvania Ave, Southern Pines, Wednesday, October 3, 2018 at 2:00 PM.
