James Arthur Coleman 86, of Southern Pines, passed on Wednesday, January 22, 2020 at St. Joseph of the Pines Nursing Center in Southern Pines. 

A memorial service will be held 2PM, Saturday, February 1st, 2020 at the Belle Meade Chapel in Southern Pines, with the Rev. Archie Stevens officiating. Burial will be private in Pinelawn Memorial Park in Southern Pines.

Mr. Coleman was born March 27, 1933 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Clarence and Hazel (Boardman) Coleman. From 1952 to 1956 he served during the Korean War in the US Airforce.  He met and married his wife of 65 years, on September 11, 1954 Marie Therse (Paradis) Coleman.  He graduated with a bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois.  He began to train and work in the steel industry in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in sales and management with Youngstown Sheet & Tube Company. He then over the years worked in Detroit, Grand Rapids, and Chicago in various management positions.  While managing the Chicago district office, the company merged with LTV Corporation where he was promoted to manager of the Detroit office. He left LTV acquiring a company in Laurinburg with a partner in late 1986 called Multi Products.  He later owned and operated James A. Coleman INC. Rep. Agency where he represented 20 companies until he retired in 2007 to the Southern Pines area to enjoy playing golf.

He is survived by his wife, Marie T. Coleman; Two sons, Brad Coleman (Colleen) of Quincy, IL; Bryce Coleman (Carolyn) of South Bend, IN; A brother, Deverne Coleman (Frances) of Frankfurt, MI; Six grandchildren, Cory Coleman, Christopher Coleman, James Coleman, Lucas Coleman, Heather Coleman Guzman (Jose), Courtney Coleman Hendrix (Lamont); Two great-grandchildren, Alex Guzman, Nya Guzman.     

He was preceded in death by a son, Bruce Coleman and a brother, Cal Coleman.
