Man airlifted after crashing into parked car in Cameron

A man was airlifted Wednesday evening after crashing his vehicle into an SUV parked in the driveway of a home in Cameron. The single-vehicle crash happened in the 300 block of U.S. 1 Business in Cameron, just north of South Plank Road, around 7:45 p.m.

According to the N.C. Highway Patrol on scene investigating the crash, a man was traveling southbound on U.S. 1 Business in a Dodge Nitro when he came around a long curve and veered off the opposite side of the road.

He drove along the front of the property, just off the shoulder, hitting a basketball goal and a jungle gym before plowing into the driver’s side of a Ford Explorer parked in the driveway.

The impact pushed the Explorer several feet before causing it to flip over and come to a stop on its driver’s side.

Due to the injuries he sustained, the driver of the Dodge was transported to a landing zone at the Cameron ball field and airlifted to a trauma center.

Sandhills Sentinel spoke with authorities at the scene of the crash. While the exact cause of the crash remains under investigation, there was no evidence of impairment.

One lane of U.S. 1 Business was closed while crews worked the scene and Highway Patrol investigated.

Responding units included Cypress Pointe Fire Department, Moore County EMS, Moore County Sheriff’s Department, Vass Police Department, and the N.C. Highway Patrol.
