Driver ejected in violent Robbins crash

A young driver was ejected from his car during a single-vehicle crash in Robbins on Sunday in the 600 block of Bellview Road.

Homeowners heard what they thought was thunder and looked outside to see a Mazda in the woods next to their driveway and immediately called 911.

Officials said the driver of the car was traveling west on Bellview Road when he lost control on the curve, slammed into a culvert, and went airborne into the woods on the opposite side of the driveway.

The front end of the car was demolished, airbags deployed, pieces lay scattered through the area and the engine flew out of the car to land an estimated 40 feet deep into the woods.

The driver was taken to the hospital via ambulance in what appeared to be in a life-threatening condition. The weather prevented the man from being airlifted to a trauma center.

Authorities say speed most likely played a factor in this incident, but the investigation is ongoing.

Robbins Police Department, the Moore County Sheriff’s Office, N.C. Highway Patrol, Moore County EMS, and Robbins Fire Department responded.
