A Cameron home that a man built with his own hands displaced his family of five, spanning four generations, after a devastating fire on Monday morning.
Authorities said there were two residents in the home when the fire broke out off Hancock Road near the Moore border in Lee County, but they were able to get out after seeing smoke at the front of the house.
The owner of the home told Sandhills Sentinel that it took him about six months to build the three-story house himself, some 20 years ago.
One of the tankers had to be towed from the property before being replaced by another, which slowed down the process of completely extinguishing the fire. It took over an hour to knock down all the flames.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Multiple fire departments responded to the call, including Lemon Springs, Tramway, Cypress Pointe, and Pocket. The Lee County Sheriff’s Department, Moore County EMS, the Lee County Fire Marshal, and the N.C. Forest Service also responded.
