Emergency units weathered a very rainy Thursday night near Eastwood after a two-vehicle crash partially shut down the intersection of NC Highway 73 and Beulah Hill Church Road.
The crash happened shortly after 8 p.m.
According to the Highway Patrol on scene, a Nissan Altima was traveling east on NC Highway 73 when the driver of a Mazda passenger car failed to yield at the stop sign and attempted to make a right turn toward Murdocksville Road.
The two cars collided, causing the Nissan to veer off the opposite side of the road into the tree line. The Mazda spun around, coming to a stop in the intersection.
Both vehicles sustained significant front-end damage.
Before emergency personnel could arrive on scene, the male driver of the Mazda had fled on foot toward West End.
Moore County Sheriff’s Office responded with a K9 and attempted to track the suspect, but he was not located at the time of this story.
The driver of the Nissan was checked out on scene by EMS but did not require transport to the hospital.
The intersection of NC Highway 73 and Beulah Hill Church Road was partially shut down for about an hour while crews worked the scene.
Responding to the scene were Eastwood Fire Department, Moore County EMS, Moore County Sheriff’s Office and NC Highway Patrol.
