One airlifted after fleeing car causes crash

A driver fleeing a traffic stop slammed into multiple vehicles in a crash on U.S. 1 and Saunders Blvd. in Southern Pines Saturday at 11:00 a.m.

A sheriff’s deputy initiated a traffic stop at U.S. 1 and Magnolia in Aberdeen, and the driver fled at a high rate of speed, crashing just over a mile away, according to authorities on scene.

The crash left multiple people injured, including a 1-year-old, and one person was airlifted to a hospital. In total, three people were taken by ambulance to FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, and one person was airlifted.

The passenger of the fleeing Chevrolet Impala was pinned in the wreckage, and firefighters had to use hydraulic tools to cut the woman from the car. Once extricated, she was flown to a trauma center. The driver of the fleeing vehicle was also injured and transported to the hospital by ambulance.

An Acura SUV with a mother and her 1-year-old was struck by the fleeing vehicle, and both were injured and taken by ambulance to the hospital, according to officials. The driver of a pickup who declined treatment was not transported to the hospital.

According to records at the Moore County Detention Center, 32-year-old Kendra Snipes was booked into the jail Saturday afternoon following the wreck.

Snipes faces charges including felony fleeing to elude arrest with a motor vehicle, possession of fentanyl, possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, reckless driving with wanton disregard, driving while license revoked, fictitious or false information to an officer, and a window tint violation.

She is being held without bond and is scheduled to appear in Moore County district court on June 3.
