James David Shands, 66 of West End died unexpectantly on Sunday, July 8, 2018.
David was born in Brunswick, Georgia to the late C.A. and Ethel Shands. He graduated from Henderson High School and attended Western Carolina University. David owned and operated a retail paint store in Henderson, NC and worked in the paint industry until his retirement to West End.
David was a much beloved husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed golfing, gardening, woodworking and spending time at the beach with his family.
In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his brother, William R. Shands.
He is survived by his wife, Rebecca Ritter Shands; son, Philip B. Shands and daughter-in-law, Stacie Shands; two grandchildren, Cohen and Kiley Shands; brother, R. Glenn Shands; mother-in-law, Arlene K. Ritter; also survived by several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at 2:00PM at Boles Funeral Home in Southern Pines. The family will receive friends following the service.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
