Obituary for James Turnage

James Chester Turnage, Jr. 77 of West End, passed away on July 1, 2024 at FirstHealth Hospice House in Pinehurst.

Born on July 23, 1946 in Fayetteville, North Carolina to the late James C. Turnage, Sr. and Jeanette Frye Baldwin. James was a faithful member of Victory Community Baptist Church. He loved his church, his country and his family. He proudly served in the US Army with two tours in the Vietnam War where he received a Purple Heart.

He enjoyed time with family and meeting new people everywhere he went. He loved trips to the beach, fishing, camping, gardening, cooking, puzzles and spreading his love of the Lord to others.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Dennis Grooms; and sister, Gayle Williams.

He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Nancy Turnage; children, Crystal Roberts, Chris Grooms, Tracy Riley and Betsy Turnage; four grandchildren, Zackeri and Mackenzie Roberts, Hailey Grooms and Max Turnage; two great grandchildren, Addie and Bryce Roberts; nephew, Lee Williams; also survived by his beloved grand “dog”, Skylar Blue.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, July 7, 2024 at 2:00PM at Victory Community Baptist Church in Carthage.
