Joan Fazio Mahfouz, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on May 30, 2023, in Southern Pines, North Carolina, at the age of 92. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Happy Anthony Mahfouz, whom she cherished deeply throughout their life together.
Born on September 1st, 1931, in Bunkie, Louisiana, Joan was the daughter of Rose and Sam Fazio. From an early age, she displayed a passion for cooking, and her culinary skills became renowned for their unique fusion of Syrian, Italian, and Creole flavors. Joan’s kitchen was a place of love, warmth, and mouth watering aromas, where she delighted in preparing meals for her family and friends. Later in life Joan could often be found with a romance novel in hand, while enjoying a glass of wine or a martini.
Joan is survived by her daughter, Rosemary Mahfouz Young, and son in law, Mark Young, who brought much joy to her life. Her three granddaughters, Emily Norris, JoAnna Harrell, and Patsy Jones, were a source of immense pride, and their laughter filled her heart. Joan also leaves behind three great-grandsons, Noah, Cannon, and Aiden, who brought a sparkle to her eyes and enriched her life with their presence.
In Joan Fazio Mahfouz’s passing, her family and friends mourn the loss of a remarkable woman whose love and generosity will forever be remembered. May her soul find eternal peace, and may her memory continue to inspire and guide us all.
