Pinecrest's Sydney Garner commits to play indoor, beach volleyball for Flyers

Sydney Garner of Pinecrest High School has committed to playing indoor and beach volleyball at Sandhills Community College.

The 5-foot-8 setter is the daughter of Ira Garner and Jenn Bellmore.  A Sandhills Promise student, she plans to pursue a double major in Health and Fitness Science and Associate in Science.

Garner has been playing volleyball for six years but did not play last fall.  As a junior, she was a member of a Patriot squad that compiled a record of 22-5, including a 12-0 mark in the Sandhills Athletic Conference.  She also lettered in softball at Pinecrest and played club volleyball at NC Academy and AC Sandhills.

Garner indicated she chose Sandhills because of a positive team environment that makes it feel like a family.  She looks forward to getting to know her teammates and creating memories with them.

“We are so excited to have Sydney join the Flyer Family,” Coach Alicia Riggan says. “She is a competitor and loves to win.  She can not only set, but hit as well.  She is a great teammate and a great addition for us.”

Garner volunteers at West Pine Middle School, where her mother works, assisting teachers when needed.  She also played volleyball there for Coach Wendy McCormick.
