Obituary for Joanne Marie Green of Pinehurst

Joanne Marie Green passed away peacefully on August 14, 2026, at her home in Pinehurst.

Born on July 19, 1946, in Washington, D.C., Joanne lived a life filled with love and cherished memories. As a young, ambitious woman, she worked for the Potomac Electric & Power Company and the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority. Later, she found her true calling in social sales at Pinehurst Resort and Country Club, where for over two decades she greeted guests with the trademark phrase, “It’s a beautiful day in Pinehurst.” Her dedication and excellence were recognized with the resort’s Employee of the Year award.

Family was at the heart of Joanne’s life. She worked tirelessly to ensure her children had every possible opportunity, instilling strong values of integrity and initiative in them. Joanne found great joy in becoming a grandmother, which was quickly apparent to anyone she met. She also gladly assumed the role of hostess, whether it was coordinating holiday gatherings, planning the annual Metro golf tournament’s picnic, or simply inviting a neighbor over for a glass of wine to catch up. Her hobbies included bowling, interior decorating, and watching the Redskins on Sunday afternoons.

She is survived by her sons Christian (Nicole) and Jonathan (Lauren); grandchildren JR, Lilly, Natalie, Bella, and Clara; numerous nieces and nephews who will remember her fondly; and her precious “furbaby” Pita. Joanne was preceded in death by her father Joseph Cady, mother Gertrude Smith, sister Sharon Womersley, brothers Michael Cady, Timmy Cady, Jody Cady, and Danny Cady, and her husband of many years, Carl Green.

In celebration of Joanne’s life, her sons will host visitors at Boles Funeral Home of Pinehurst on Friday, September 4 from 4–6 p.m.

Joanne will be remembered for her caring nature, loving spirit, transparency, fairness, and generosity. Her family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to her medical team for their compassionate care over the past few years, including longtime provider Dr. John Jameson and colleagues at First Health of the Carolinas. They also wish to thank Joanne’s close friends and neighbors for their unwavering support. May Joanne’s memory bring comfort to all who knew her.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial gifts be made to the V Foundation for Cancer Research or the Moore Humane Society.
