John G. Sloan, Jr., age 86, died in Aberdeen, NC on Thursday, May 3, 2018 at the family home in which he was born on December 22, 1931. 

He was the son of the late John G. and Alice Campbell Sloan, also of Aberdeen.  He graduated from Aberdeen High School in 1950.  He graduated from Presbyterian Junior College, then located in Maxton, NC in 1952.   He served four years in the US Coast Guard from 1952-56, during the Korean War. He graduated from UNC in Chapel Hill in 1959.   Before returning to Aberdeen in 1997, he worked at Southeastern Radio Supply Company in Raleigh, NC.  In Aberdeen, John served as curator of the Aberdeen High School Museum and was a member and chairman of the Aberdeen Historical Association.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Harriet Schnell Sloan; daughter Mary Campbell Sloan Cline and her husband, John, and their two children of Chapel Hill, NC; his son Robert Philip Sloan and his wife, Sundai, and their four sons of Deep Gap, NC.

The family wishes to express sincere gratitude to the VA and Hospice for their care and compassion during John’s illness.

A graveside service will be held at Bethesda Cemetery in Aberdeen, NC on Wednesday May 9, 2018 at 2:00 PM followed by a visitation at the Postmaster’s House, 204 East South Street in Aberdeen.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Bethesda Presbyterian Church, 1002 N. Sandhills Blvd., Aberdeen, NC 28315.
