Lana Medlin Shaw, age 74, of Vass, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 16, 2021 at FirstHealth Hospice House in Pinehurst, surrounded by her loving family.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Cox Memorial Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, October 18, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Mike Dubbs officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m.  Burial will follow at Crossroads Community Church Cemetery.

Lana was born in Moore County on May 6, 1947 to the late J.D. and Pauline Belton Medlin. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Shaw.

Lana was not only the matriarch of the family; she was her family’s advocate, friend and go to person when they needed something. You could always count on her to help in any way she could. Her heart was all about helping and caring for others. She loved camping trips to the beach and the mountains, but her passion was having family gatherings and preparing her delicious meals for them. In fact, she retired from doing what she loved, preparing meals for kids at Pinehurst Elementary School.

She is survived by her daughter, Tonia Shaw (Michelle) of Southern Pines; god-daughter, Toni Cox (Rick) of Idaho; sisters, Donna Myrick (Mike Dubbs), Deborah Bibey of Carthage, Joyce Maness of Vass; brothers, Donnie Medlin (Linda) of West End, Jeff Medlin (Angie) of Southern Pines; grand god-daughter, Ashley of Washington; several special nephews, nieces and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

Condolences may be sent to www.coxmemorialfuneralhome.com.

The family has entrusted services to Cox Memorial Funeral Home & Crematory in Vass.
