Mary Ellen Gentry, 71, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 31, 2020 at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.
Mary Ellen was born October 24, 1948 in Laurinburg, NC. Mary Ellen had a 30 plus year teaching career. She taught school for both North and South Carolina School Systems, retiring in 2010 from Carthage Elementary School. Mary Ellen enjoyed swimming and gardening, but traveling was one of her greatest passions. She and Roger traveled extensively, going overseas on several occasions. Additionally, her grandchildren brought her great joy in life.
Mary Ellen is survived by her husband of 45 years, Roger S. Gentry, Jr., of Seven Lakes, NC; her sons Roger Gentry, III of Pinehurst, NC and Alan Gentry (Laurel) of Seagrove, NC; grandchildren Payten and Macie Gentry. She is also survived by a brother Jimmy Wrape (Tammy) of Harvest, AL.
She was preceded in death by her father James C. Wrape and her grandparents Frank and Osa Wrape who raised her from a child.
A private memorial service will be held for family at 11:00AM on Wednesday, June 3, 2020 at Boles Funeral Home Chapel, 221 MacDougall Drive, West End, NC 28376 with the Rev. Jon Neuhs officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes donations in memory of Mary Ellen be made to UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center, PO Box 1050, Chapel Hill, NC 27514 or Elise Presbyterian Church, 200 N. Middleton Street, Robbins, NC 27325.
