Obituary Raymond R. Bertrand

Raymond R. Bertrand, Command Sergeant Major – Retired, age 67, passed away peacefully on March 26, 2021 at his residence in the Woodlake Community. Ray’s wife Lynne was by his side.

Ray was born on February 4, 1954 in Waterbury, CT the son of Albert and Eleanor Bertrand. He joined the Army at age 17 and served 42 years of distinguished service. He was a great mentor, leader and friend to all who knew him. He enjoyed early morning fishing in his canoe and a fire at night surrounded by family and friends. Ray volunteered most of his life, but dearest to him were Cub Scout Master in Vernon, CT, American Legion Post #21 in Newport, VT and Sergeant Majors Association at Fort Bragg, NC.

Ray is survived by his wife of 22 years, Lynne Dykstra Bertrand; two sons Daniel Dykstra (Alexis) of Southern Pines, NC and Jacob Jezouit of E. Windsor, CT; a sister Ann Marie Crawford of Raeford, NC and a brother Allen (Charmaine) Bertrand of Hudson, NH; a niece Mary Dubin (Mike) and great nephews Brandon, Cameron, Logan and Ashton of Raeford, NC; as well as numerous family members and friends that will cherish his memory.
