Roberta Holden of Southern Pines, passed peacefully at her home on Friday, January 11, 2019 after a courageous fourteen year battle with carcinoid cancer.
Roberta was born in Dubuque, Iowa on April 24, 1946. The oldest child of Robert and Dorene McCarthy; she attended Dubuque schools and after graduating went on to a career in nursing. She worked in nursing until her son, Matthew was born.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Thomas McClimon in 1998. Roberta is survived by her husband, Leslie Holden of Southern Pines; her mother, Dorene McCarthy, a sister, Dianne Wagner and brother Patrick all of Dubuque, Iowa; her son Matthew and wife, Patty McClimon and three grandsons, Drew, Zachary and Will, all of New Albany, Ohio; step-daughters Heather Taylor of Fayetteville and Lesley Sehringer of Columbus, GA.
A funeral Mass will be held on Friday, January 18th, 2019 at 10am at St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church at 160 E. Vermont Avenue in Southern Pines with Monsignor James Burnett of Darren, Illinois officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a memorial donation be made to a charity of your choice.
