Obituary for Ronald Reginald Baldwin

Mr. Ronald Reginald Baldwin, age 60 of Elgin, SC, affectionately known to immediate family as “Ronnie” and “Ron”, passed away on Wednesday, July 15, 2020 at Prisma Health Richland Hospital in Columbia, SC.

Born in Pinehurst, North Carolina, he was the son of William McLendon and Emma Jean Baldwin Lewis.  Ron graduated from Pinecrest High School in Southern Pines, NC in 1978. He attended Montgomery County Technical College for cooking and worked at Pinehurst Country Club and several other local hotels as a cook.  He later attended Charlotte Diesel Trucking to obtain his Professional CDL License in 1999.  Ron was ordained into ministry in 1995 and has served in many roles as Elder, Associate Pastor, Adult Sunday School teacher and Kitchen Ministry.

Ron grew up in West End, NC and moved to Newberry, South Carolina in 2009 where he resided until 2017 before relocating to Elgin, SC. He remained an active member of Restoration Outreach Church in Newberry, SC since 2012 where he faithfully served as Deacon, Usher and the Men’s Ministry Leader under Pastor Winston Yoder.  He loved his church family and enjoyed the time he spent with them.

Being an over the road truck driver for over 25 years, Ron never met a stranger.   He loved to talk and share stories from how God used him to minister with many he encountered along his path while driving across the country. Ron loved his family and spent every opportunity to gather with family where he could use his passion to cook something on the grill.   The family nicknamed him “Chef Boy RB”. They often called him while they were cooking to provide advice on how to make it taste like his cooking.  He was rarely seen without being with one of the grandchildren.   Every spring/summer/fall/ and Christmas break, the grandchildren would love to come stay with “Papa Ron”.  One of the highlights for him was taking them for a ride in the “Big Truck”.

Surviving are his wife, Carolyn Lindsay Baldwin; father, William McLendon; mother, Emma Baldwin Lewis; children, Reginald Baldwin (Ann Marie); Natalie Thompson; Alesha Logan (James) and Ashley Carson (Christopher); sisters, Donna  Baldwin, Erica Baldwin-Carthens (Bobby) and Belinda Brower; brothers, Bentley Baldwin (Annie), Jonathan “Emery” Baldwin and Ricky McLendon; grandchildren, Shania, Jaden, Jeremiah and Skylar Logan; Amari and Marvin Finney; Ashton Cooper, Mariah Carson, Ella Rose Baldwin, Isaiah Martin, Naheem and Rihanna Thompson and Keenan Trogdon; special son-n-law, Dexter Trogdon, a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
