A four-vehicle crash on U.S. 15-501 left one person airlifted and seven others injured on Thursday afternoon. The collision happened at the highway’s intersection with Spring Lake Drive, just north of Pinehurst, where all four vehicles were traveling south toward the traffic circle.
Authorities on scene told Sandhills Sentinel that the driver of a Hyundai Sonata failed to see three vehicles in the roadway and struck the back of a Lexus SUV. The force of the impact pushed both vehicles into a pickup truck, which then hit a transfer truck.
The passenger in the Sonata was taken to a landing zone at Rassie Wicker Park and flown by medevac helicopter to a trauma center. Seven additional people, including at least one child, were transported by Moore County EMS to FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital. Their conditions are not known at this time.
The Pinehurst Police Department is investigating the cause of the crash. No further details or charges have been released at this time.Â
