A Moore County driver was transported to the hospital via EMS after his pickup truck swerved off the road, careened down an embankment, and crashed into the tree line, trapping him within his truck along Highway 15-501 in Pinehurst.
Just before 12:30 p.m. on Monday, first responders received a call alerting them to a truck that had crashed a short distance from the traffic circle. The driver had been traveling southbound and had deviated so far from the road that the large truck could no longer be seen from the other side of the guardrail.
According to authorities on the scene, the driver said an object struck his windshield, causing him to swerve. The incident is still under investigation at this time.
The driver of the Ford F-150 was the vehicle’s only occupant and had non-visible, non-life-threatening injuries.
The truck sustained heavy front-end damage and had to be removed from the tree line with a winch. Rockwell Towing was on the scene to drag the Ford free from debris and load it onto a tow truck.
Traffic was rerouted around the scene of the wreck while first responders worked to free the driver from the vehicle. As such, southbound traffic was reduced to one lane, resulting in delays near the busy traffic circle.
