Pinehurst man gets 38-56 years for child sex crimes

A 47-year-old man from Pinehurst was sentenced to 38 and half years to over 56 years in prison after pleading guilty Monday to child sex crimes.

Terry Hardin pled guilty in Moore County Superior Court to two counts of statutory rape of a child by an adult; two counts of statutory rape; two counts of first degree sex offense; one count of felony child abuse by sexual act and four counts of taking Indecent liberties with a child.

“This case was a joint investigation by the Pinehurst Police Department, the Moore County Sheriff’s Office, and the NC State Bureau of Investigations,” said Moore County District Attorney Mike Hardin in a press release on Tuesday. “All three law enforcement agencies involved are to be commended for the thorough investigation conducted in this case.”

Additionally, Hardin was ordered to register as a sex offender for life.

“On May 16, 2022 the Moore County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a sex offense in the Pinebluff area which was revealed during a Pinehurst Police Department investigation into similar incidents within the city limits of Pinehurst,” said Moore County Sheriff Ronnie Fields in a news advisory in May about the investigation.

Authorities did not release the age of the minor.
