Deputies with the Moore County Sheriff’s Department responded to a “report of a person shooting into the ground with a handgun outside his truck in the parking lot of the Shell gas station” on Highway 211 in the Seven Lakes community in West End.
Moore County Sheriff’s Department said the incident was reported around 9:30 a.m. Friday.
“The first responding deputy arrived as the shots were being fired and ordered the shooter to put the firearm down, to which he complied,” said Sheriff Ronnie Fields in a press release.Â
Fields identified the man taken into custody without incident as Anthony Furr, 67, of West End.

“Further investigation revealed that Furr did not leave in his vehicle, as previously believed,” said Fields. “A second handgun was found in one of Furr’s pockets, and records indicate that he does not hold a permit to carry a concealed handgun.”
Furr was arrested on charges of one count of misdemeanor going armed to the terror of the people and one count of carrying a concealed weapon.
No injuries or property damage were reported.Â
“Investigators are continuing their efforts to determine a motive for the shooting,” said Fields.
Furr’s secured bond was set at $100,000. He is expected in court on Wednesday and is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
