Moore County Sheriff’s Office is warning citizens of a scam circulating the county.
The sheriff’s office said in a Wednesday news release the scammers are using a fake deputy’s name to con residents in submitting a credit card number to avoid being arrested for failing to appear in court.
“There are no employees of the Moore County Sheriff’s Office named ‘Deputy Sellers,'” said the office. “Further, never would a member of the sheriff’s office ask for a credit card to be submitted in order to avoid service of legal process.”
The scammers are telling residents to call Deputy Sellers at 910-390-2651 to avoid being arrested.
If you have any questions regarding this scam, please call the sheriff’s office at 910-947-2931.
