Aberdeen Police Department launches new Honor Guard Team

The Aberdeen Police Department has established its first Honor Guard team, a ceremonial unit formed in 2025 to uphold the department’s highest traditions of discipline, respect, and service.

“This dedicated team is called upon to represent the Aberdeen Police Department at line-of-duty funerals, memorial services, civic events, ceremonies, and community functions, ensuring fallen officers, veterans, and special occasions are honored with respect and precision,” writes the department on its Facebook page. “Every movement, uniform detail, whether for solemn remembrance or celebration, reflects the commitment to the ceremonial presentation and respect —not only for the occasion, but for the values of law enforcement and the community we serve.”

Each member volunteers for the assignment, which requires additional training and a commitment to ceremonial standards. The department said the team’s role extends beyond presentation to demonstrate the values of law enforcement and the community it serves.

“Serving on the Honor Guard Team is a voluntary commitment that requires additional training, time, and discipline,” says the department. “These officers proudly step forward to represent our department, our town, and the law enforcement profession.”

The inaugural Honor Guard includes Capt. Chris Davis, Detective Sean O’Dowd, Officer Brandon Sheppard, Officer Derick Williams, Officer Lucas King and Officer Joseph Fuerch.
