Living at Quail Haven Village senior living community in Pinehurst are many remarkable couples, but none with as long and amazing of a history as Simpson and Nan Brown. Their love story is as enduring as it is inspiring. Simpson, 103, and Nan, 101, celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary last November, having married on November 23, 1963, just one day after the JFK assassination.
Their story began at a New Year’s Eve party in Kearny, New Jersey, where Nan’s aunt and uncle introduced them. That magical night remains Nan’s favorite memory. Originally from Northern Ireland, Simpson moved to the U.S. in 1960. Nan came from Scotland, and the two would later work at the same company; she as a secretary for 39 years, and he was in marketing for 18.
The couple moved to Pinehurst in 1988. In 2023, they made their home at Quail Haven senior living community, where they continue to enjoy independent living.
Their secret to a long and happy marriage? Nan’s advice: “Go along to get along.”
